To mark World Mental Health Day 2017, a fantastic evening of art and live music will be held at Arts Central in Central Milton Keynes on Tuesday 10 October at 7pm.
This free event has been organised by Shanon Austin, and is being supported by Arts Central, Pohwer, CCG, CNWL, The Mix, Rethink Mental Illness, Mind BLMK, The Parks Trust & Milton Keynes Council.
The evening will provide an opportunity for people who are living with mental health issues to share their stories and to also encourage guests to talk openly about the often-misunderstood topic.
The programme includes a “Silent Auction”, art pieces donated by Peter Leeson with proceeds going to the WMHD MK event, an art exhibition with works done by talented people who are either recovered, or are in recovery with mental health illness. In addition, there will be – live music provided by Crossroots, Personal testimonies written by people with lived experience and two very short Mental Health films, one which includes a much-loved royal.
The main testimony of the night will be from an MK Peer Support Worker, Mark Sanderson.
Special guests include the Mayor, Cllr David Hopkins and his wife Suzanne, the previous Mayor Steve Coventry and his wife Liane, MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET) and others.
It is hoped that the evening will be enjoyable, yet thought-provoking and guests will be invited to write a few words on how they feel about mental health and pin it to an “Inspirational Tree”. At the end of the evening, guests are also welcome to pen their memory of the evening on the “Memory Tree”.
World Mental Health Day is recognised every year to raise awareness of Mental Health issues around the world. This year’s theme focuses on Mental Health in the work place and the continued challenge to eradicate the “stigma” that surrounds all mental health illnesses.
Entry to the event is FREE however booking is essential. Refreshments are available for £1.
